Bloom

The sudden sun shone through the pane
And lighted both their faces —
A prettier sight just after rain
Ne'er fell in pleasant places:

Two girls. One held a vase of glass,
And one a bulb unsightly,
Ragged and soiled. And this the lass
Upon the vase laid lightly.

" What lovely flowers we 'll have, " said they,
" After it starts a-growing! "
The sun, delighted, slipped away
And down the west went glowing.
