Camp Zachary Taylor

D AY

Madness of geometricians
The insomnia of countless carpenters made visible.
Monotony grown frenzied.
The spawn of Speed and Utility,
The cantonment in its vast hideousness
Sprawls on the ground,
And the vertical precision of smokestacks
Divide the sky.

N IGHT

Over all things the violet-shadowed snow,
Silence, and the star-delighted sky
Before us the awful monotony of days
And the deep night without thought,
Without care.
