Carmina - Part 9

Veranius, my dear friend, the friend worth
More to me than three hundred thousand others,
Is it true that you've come back to home and hearth,
To your old mother and affectionate brothers?
It's true. Wonderful news! In a short while
I'll see you safe and well, hear you describe
In your inimitable traveller's style
The sights of Spain, a landscape or a tribe,
Put my arms around you, draw you close and then
Plant on the mouth and eyes I love a kiss.
Of all the world's supremely happy men
Who is as happy as Catullus is?
