SEASONAL HUES
White and black for winter, barren and often unloved
Every season wears its favourite coat, in various hues
Bare trees that do wonder what they must have done
Under grey and misty skies, temperatures set to stun
As if it’s a kind of death, that few people will choose
The bitter wind prompts us to be scarved and gloved
A green emergent spring, when hope finally returns
Eagerly bursting from the ground, focus on growth
Another season for life, with no more recuperation
Building upon all those cold months of preparation
Trees with new leaves that are happy, as are both
Shoots reach up to a blue sky, free of all concerns
A glorious yellow summer, as the sun shines all day
Flowers in full bloom, branches dripping with fruit
As this bountiful season of contentment is created
Long days and bright dawns are eagerly anticipated
Nearly ready for harvesting, but the dates are moot
But just like all the seasons, it has rules it must obey
Red and gold for autumn, when leaves begin to fall
A chill in the air reminding all that warmth is done
A gentle year’s end once again has turned out right
All the colours of the seasons making a pretty sight
Misty mornings mean the year-end race will be won
For nature’s beautiful hues, it’s a season liked by all
