Christ and the World

Roams there a pilgrim through this world of woe,
Where virtue serves and vice befriended reigns,
Who would not gladly its delights forego,
Content to purchase freedom from its pains?

Then what sad mortal, panting for relief,
Too much can bless the fond Redeemer's love,
Who bids him hope oblivion of grief,
And adds eternity of bliss above?
