Come to me out of the dark,
Like a cloud, like a mist;
Come to me out of the dark,
Silent, unseen and unknown;
Out of the darkness come
And into the darkness vanish,
Like a cloud, like a mist.

Darkness shall cover our thoughts
And cover our eyes with content,
And the sight that is of day,
And the knowledge that is of day,
Shall not have power to trouble
The delight of the lips.
Come to me out of the dark.

Come to me out of the dark
Like a cloud, like a mist;
And yet be man too, and flesh,
With arms strong to take me,
With fingers trembling to touch me,
Hands trembling at my breast.

Have me with awe and grace
And mystery of the dark,
Unseen and unknown,
Have me with awe and grace
And freedom of the dark …
With dim exquisite touch …

Come to me out of the dark,
O love unseen and unknown,
O burdenless and unrequiring …
Out of the darkness come—

And into the darkness vanish—
Like a cloud, like a mist.
