Come parents dear from far and wide

Come parents dear from far and wide,
And lend to me a willing ear;
While I relate the cruel fate
That overtook this baby dear.

He lay a-sleeping on his bed;
He was so very sweet and fair.
With blue eyes closed in slumber deep,
And locks of curly, golden hair.

A wicked man with cruel heart
Crept in and stood beside the bed.
He took the babe and left a note;
He must have money, so it read.

And when the parents found it gone,
Oh! heaven hear the mother weep;
To know her little one so dear
Was stolen while he lay asleep.

This murderer must face his God,
For when all earthly courts are passed,
He will stand before his final Judge
And reap a just reward at last.
