rats dying of feeding on festering wounds
containing poisoning resulting from firing —

an instructive experiment for the class —
if I err, let some scholar correct me:
the participle, killing,
is derived from the active verb,
infinitive, to kill,
the conjugation of which is

kill, the action of somebody firing,
killed, the action on somebody fired upon,
