Cypress of lofty stature, goodly of gait

Cypress of lofty stature, goodly of gait,
Rosy cheeked robber, lying for hearts in wait;

Since thou our heart hast ravished by roguery,
Prithee, for God's sake, keep it inviolate!

Since thy two eyes of glamour I first beheld,
Ease from my heart and patience departed straight.

When thou thy tress's spikenard shakest abroad,
Civet and musk thenceforward folk nothing rate.

Falseness no longer practise, o fair; for faith
Strive, if indeed thou wouldest live fortunate.

Solace thou me thy lover whiles with a kiss,
So thou wouldst have enjoyment of life elate.

Dazed is wretched Hafiz: to be thy slave
Still, without gold or silver, it is his fate.
