Foreground and Background

You may fill the foreground with common stuff, —
I take no offence, it is well enough;
But in the background I want the light
Of some blue crest on an unknown height.

And through the murmur of idle chat,
Of laughter and strife about this and that,
I long for a bell-tone deep and grand
To tell of rest in a better land.
