Gierusalemme Soggettita, La - Part 14

When thrice five summers I had fully seen,
Myself I furnished with shining shield,
And cas'd my manly limbs in armour sheen,
And with my thund'ring courser beat the field;
And 'gainst dismay my haughty courage steel'd:
Tow'rds fair Jerusalem I shap'd my road,
Where cruel Infidels in battle yield;
Where frowning war in all his horrors glow'd,
And stain'd with human gore discolour'd Jordan flow'd.
