Gierusalemme Soggettita, La - Part 50

With shiver'd launces and with cloven shields,
And riven helmets was the earth dispread;
Ensanguin'd torrents stream'd along the fields,
And the green grass now blushed rosy red,
With blood of slaughter'd knights envermeiled:
Now ebbing honour flow'd from Christian veins,
Now the fierce Turk and haughty Persian bled;
An undistinguish'd carnage loads the plains,
Blank Horrour stalks around, and Desolation reigns.
