The Glow-worm

Glow-worm lights her starry lamp
'Mid the mosses soft and damp
Softer radiance I'll avouch
Streams not on a Princely couch;
Wherefore in the murky night
Shines the Glow-worm's chrysolite.
Dian's crescent diadem
Scarce can show a lovelier gem.
Thus she thinks her spouse to guide
Thus she lures him to her side,
She's his jewel bright and pure
She's his earthly cynosure:
She's his fair and brilliant bride,
Helpmate given his way to guide.
Thus to wed an earthly dame
From the skies young Cupid came;
Spouses if you all had wings
Who would trust to wedding rings?
