Of Horses

They use the Whip, the Horse complains,
Who lack the Sense to use the Reins.

Both Men and Horses pull their best
Not Tandem-hitched, but All-abreast.

N O Ragged Saddle can disgrace
The Thoroughbred who wins the Race.

T HE Rider in the Saddle picks the Way;
And he that Mounts Behind has Naught to say.

R ESPONSIBILITY is Spur or Bridle;
It drives the Vigorous, but checks the Idle.
