Laura. The Toyes of a Traveller. Or. The Feast of Fancie - Part 1, 22
If in the midst of kindled burning fire
That worthy Romane burnt his valiant hand,
I like an other Mutius in desire,
Haue scorcht my fist likewise through Loves command
In freshest moysture, where my Ladie sweet
Her lilly hands for coolnes dived oft.
But though desire betweene us was alike,
Yet was the matter divers which we sought.
He chose to burne his hand with courage bold
In flaming fire, and I in water cold.
That worthy Romane burnt his valiant hand,
I like an other Mutius in desire,
Haue scorcht my fist likewise through Loves command
In freshest moysture, where my Ladie sweet
Her lilly hands for coolnes dived oft.
But though desire betweene us was alike,
Yet was the matter divers which we sought.
He chose to burne his hand with courage bold
In flaming fire, and I in water cold.
