A Litany

Virgin , whose sweet side within
Jesus entered without sin,
Hear our cry to thee.

Mary, whose fair eyes have known
Tears man weepeth all alone,
Hear our cry to thee.

Star, that shining far away
Lighteth the lone wanderer's way,
Hear our cry to thee.

Golden house, that maketh home
For the traveller that hath none,
Hear our cry to thee.

Mother, who being pure and mild
Hath the whole sad world for child,
Hear our cry to thee.

Mother, though we stray like sheep,
Yet because we weep and weep,
Hear our cry to thee.

Mother, since so greatly we
Need thine aid and thy pity,
Hear our cry to thee.
