To a Little Miss, with a Toy Lookingglass
Enclos'd My Dears the promissed glass
Which will reflect your lov'ly face
And when you'r good, will show most fair
But if you'r naughty, come not there;
For when the angry passions rise
They quite becloud your pretty eyes
And make mamma think nancys flown
And papa does not know his own,
But you are good I know you are
And therefore always will look fair
Will mind what those who love you say
Nor teaze your sister when you play
And when I come the little glass
Will shew me all things as they pass
And I will tell the fairy queen
Who dances on the newshorn green
And oft by moon light may be seen
That she may bring you nuts and flowers
And every good thing shall be yours.
Which will reflect your lov'ly face
And when you'r good, will show most fair
But if you'r naughty, come not there;
For when the angry passions rise
They quite becloud your pretty eyes
And make mamma think nancys flown
And papa does not know his own,
But you are good I know you are
And therefore always will look fair
Will mind what those who love you say
Nor teaze your sister when you play
And when I come the little glass
Will shew me all things as they pass
And I will tell the fairy queen
Who dances on the newshorn green
And oft by moon light may be seen
That she may bring you nuts and flowers
And every good thing shall be yours.
