A WAKE , Clariffa, now awake,
Why do you sleeping lie?
I tell you, it is time to rise,
Hark! hear the Milk-man cry.

It is not that I am asleep,
Altho' I stupid seem;
What am I in delusion, then,
Or, does my fancy dream?

I know 'tis time that I was up,
To Business of the Day;
I'm angry with myself oft times
When I thus long do lay.

Awake, ye Sinners, now awake,
Ye that are dead in Sin;
Christ promises to give those light,
That darkness now are in.

Awake, ye Sinners, now awake,
Tho' open but one Eye;
Why on a Bed of Sin and Sloth
Thus slumbering do you lie?

Awake, and hear the Gospel call,
It's a melodious sound;
Awake, and seize the Pearl divine,
No Prize like it is found.

Awake, the Rose of Sharon smells,
It's fragrances is fine;
Arise, and taste delicious Fruit,
For Jesus is a Vine.

Arise, and view the Morning Star,
How will it clear the sight!
No Gems, or Money can it buy,
Or sparkle half so bright.

Andif God's Spirit does you wake,
To take a Gospel view;
You'll praise the Lord that chang'd your state
Your Joys will all be New.

Yea, a new Heart he'll give to you,
From which new Life will grow;
Such beauties you in Christ will see
Which none but him can show.
