A March

O Fatherland, whose memory
Inspires the youthful heart to praise,
May in our hearts the virtues be
That made thee great in former days.
Too long the grave reminds in vain
Of what thou canst not be again.
Rely not only on the past,
But speak within the young man's breast!
Our fathers bid us by their story
To live as they, and die in glory.
