MEDIOCRITY / I have come to admire

MEDIOCRITY
I have come to admire
it is so plentiful
as I watch
the squirmings
of
these unattached searchers
after spurious elegance
I say to myself
how beautiful is a derrick —
it hoists actualities upon —
a plan of
measurable height —
SWISH SWISH SWISH
on a sandboard
to waltztime
in the flare
of a white SPOT
illumining
most splendidly.
MEDIOCRITY
is so stimulating —
naturally not the
copy cattish
mediocrity of
arrivistiv talentry
but RATHER
the calm mediocrity of
the battered
TOMASSO
sleeping on a heap of ashes
in an overloaded receptacle of degenerated
domestic
OFFAL.
It is by means of TOMASSO
laziness
vivid night
in wind-torn
airshafts and
reprobatish
cellars
in quest of
reciprocal antagonism
perfected mediocrity
is permitted
not with that copycatting of the well trained
parrot
above a most tiresome
fishglobe.
I say so too, Monsieur Coalfleet
or if you prefer it, Pierre —
isn't it simply
to howl
like a coyote
against the dizzy night
when you know
that the giant of
twenty-four
who sits there
sipping coffee
smoking a pipe
like a
MAN —
made for the
chopping down
of worn-out
useless
centuries
spends his
best hours
beating eggs
for an
OMELETTE SURPRISE
Hegel
Kant
Schopenhauer
take notice —
is there
really
nothing
to
be
done
for the
prevention
of cruelty
to one's
priceless
sense
of humour?
I do not wonder
that members
of the best families
among
the centuries
burst a
vessel
and pass
AWAY
now
and
then
out
of
helpless HYSTERIAEnglish
