Meditation on the 3d Verse of the 28th Chapter of Mathew

The solemn hour must come tis hastning fast
When stripped of all this frail and brittle clay
My soul a naked unembodied spirit —
Must meet her change and realize eternity
And thro deaths Shadowy vale must walk alone
Oh! may I there behold some blesed spirit
Whose radient form shall gild the dreary gloom
Whose heavenly lips shall say " be not affraid.
For you sought Jesus thro the vale of tears
And lookd for help from him to whom all power
In heaven and hell and earth and sea is given
And see his sign of brightness thro the spheres
And see the blesed cross suspended high
To cheer his followers thro this dreadful shade
He bids me say to you be not affraid
For he'll conduct you thro the obedient hands
Of us his servants to his fathers throne
And there present you spotless thro his blood
That blood which flow'd from his dear pierced side
To wash and heal and purify his own. "
