It's down there, he said,
and spat,
like the water was a supernatural monster,
movie-screen mayhem
a-lurk in the earth.
you drill deep enough & it will flow
like blood from a vein.
We've tapped a vein,
a river of blackwater
rolling to a miles-deep sea.

Put that where the sun don't shine
I thought, crossing that site off the list.
