When I’ll see more people
coming out of brothel than church,
When I’ll see more people
bending down to snort heroin
than in worship in mosque,
When I’ll see more people
coming out of casino than synagogue,
When I’ll see more people
coming out of tavern than temple;
When there will be
no more water fit to drink,
When there will be
no more air fit to breathe,
When there will be
no more shades of the tree
to rest the weary souls,
When despair, distrust and darkness
overwhelm hope, faith and light;
I’ll beseech the wizards
of the winds and the seas,
and I’ll implore
the prince and the princess
of the stars and the planets,
and I’ll apprise the lords
of the thunder and lightning
of all the ills of the land
and the evil doings of its dwellers,
And I’ll pray unto them
to undo
what they have created,
And, to begin again!
