Oh, how did I ever let the day slips by me?

But, I hope to hold onto the dusk a bit longer –
It’ll be a tad dark and lonely,
But, I believe, not all is lost
There’s promise of a full moon and
an occasional star or two peeking through,
The night is still young,
And the night is still mine.

But the prospect to savor the blooming flowers
and the rising sun is long gone;
Now, the time is spent mostly looking
for side streets and back alleys
to get me home quicker.

Why did I let go off the day?

Nah...No point in rummaging
through my regrets or guilt,
I just have to make
the most of the night;
With a fair wind still in my sail
there’s no point lingering at the anchor,
I have some ways to go
before I pass beyond the horizon
and never be seen again

It is time to retract my faith,
long packed up into mothballs
and stashed away in the attic;

.Life is but transitory
leaving behind a lifetime of memories,
It’s time for some soul searching and
to reminisce about the days of yore.

Never did I learn to sail in the high winds,
Ever fraught with fear and doubt
and weary with labor and pain
I always hoped for the sea to rest.

Now, there’s a gentle breeze lazing around
albeit with a whiff of fragrance
stirring the dormant hope feebly;
But then,
there’s also a nagging fear:

Who knows when
the flickering light will go out on me
plunging me into
an abyss of eternal darkness!
