Lights dance along the eaves
At a pace to match the chilling breeze,
I'll embrace it as it comes,
It's all we've got to help us freeze.
It doesn't snow around here ever.
I have the vaguest memories
Of running around the mountains back when there was still thrill in everything.
Red, green, and blue blink back at me
And stir the feelings that I keep,
The only ones I could still feel at all, until just recently.
We walk around our streets
In search of spirit, cheer, and peace,
In the form of multi-colored decorative electricity.
I see lights dance along the eaves,
Strung through the bushes and the trees,
Covering every inch of lost time and grief I never want to see again.
Lights dance along the eaves.
Lights dance along the eaves.
I try to chase them but they're too fast for the slow way that my heart beats.
Lights dance along the eaves
For the hundredth time, I know,
But it'll never be enough to fill what's missing inside of me.
It's time that I'd better watch you leave.
"Sayonara, I guess I'll see you
Next year," and I wonder what I'll be
When we next meet
Under the gleam of an indigo sheet,
On a magic winter's night,
To sit and dream about the snow,
And watch the lights dance along the eaves.
