Mensch, verspotte nicht den Teufel

Mortal, mock not at the devil,
Life is short and soon will fail,
And the " fire everlasting"
Is no idle fairy-tale.

Mortal, pay your debts, delay not;
Years are long, and while they last
You will borrow in the future
Just as oft as in the past.
