The Monster

A FRICK no more thy Pride of Monsters boast,
Four Felines and Reptiles are at best thy most:
Europe can now a greater Wonder shew,
Than Africa, or Asia ever knew.

A humane Form, both God-like and Divine!
In whom all Gifts of Art and Nature join;
Where Learning, Wit, and Morals do excel,
Mild as a Lamb, yet as a Lion fell,
But in his Passions has no Parallel.

Oh Heav'n! oh Earth! no Creature ever knew
A Man at once so just! and so untrue!
A Man in whom all Excellencies shine!
And yet in whom all Villanies combine!.
