Presenting Her Little Son for Baptism on the Anniversary of His Birthday

" Of such my kingdom — bring them nigh, "
The gracious Savior cries;
Grateful and joyful, you comply;
Offer your sacrifice.

No nobler tribute can you bring,
(Your first and only son,)
To show allegiance to your King;
But you return His own.

Now on his fair and lovely brow
Is placed the seal of Heaven;
On high — the record of the vow,
And offering thou hast given.

Call'd by the Savior's blessed name,
O! on his youthful heart,
Be written as with pen of flame,
The truth his words impart.

Almost might angels wish to claim,
In thy rich boon a share,
Might tremble, too — a priceless gem
Is trusted to your care.

In life's sweet morn, if 'tis removed,
To shine with radiance bright
In joyful, holy realms above,
In pure, unclouded light.

Then may this beauteous, holy rite,
This happy natal day,
Be as a heavenly beacon light,
To shine through earth's dark way.

Heaven spare thy darling — guide his steps
Through youth, to manhood's prime —
Give him a home among the blest,
Beyond the reach of time.
