My Name it Was "Old Chris"

My name it was “Old Chris”
When I sailed!
I'd a better time than this
When I sailed!
For I was a fearless rover,
And crossed the ocean over,
A new world to discover,
When I sailed!

Then I grew old and hoary,
As I sailed!
Faded was my glory,
When I sailed!
And a cruel King of Spain
Rewarded all my toil and pain
With a jolly iron chain,
When I sailed!

Then I thought this rather rough,
When I sailed!
But my treatment here's more tough,
Than when I sailed
For I pass both day and night,
Nailed up so close and tight;
None of me's had a sight,
Since I sailed!

Who would have this believed,
When I sailed!
And at “Colon” was received,
Where I sailed!
Say, do you think it just,
That I fall a prey to rust?
I've been mad enough to “bust,”
Since I sailed!
