Ja, Europa ist erlegen

Yes, Europa is forgiven
 And Danaé too. What power
 Could subdue a golden shower
Or withstand a bull from heaven?

Semele was not much wiser
 When she lost her precious honor;
 For it never dawned upon her
That a cloud could compromise her.

But our scorn arises quicker
 When we read the tale of Leda—
 Only such a goose would heed a
Silly swan and let it trick her!
