At Night-time

We soothe the child for some withholden pleasure,
Till sweet eyes smile that were so fain to weep:
“To-morrow—only wait until to-morrow,
After you sleep.”

So we are soothed with solemn dreams of heaven,
When earthly days no further solace keep;
Hope tells us there shall be a happy morrow
After we sleep.
