Ode in Praise of Chastity, An

Let slaves and brutes by raging lust possess'd
Harbour in each polluted breast
A dire, infectuous flame, which burns
Fierce and insensible, a flame which turns
Our godlike soul, divine and bright,
The source of virtue and of light,
Into a canker'd gloom, and baleful night.

Let the infatuate, wretched soul
In fulsome blisses fondly roll,
Despise advice, and dare controul.

Let all go on as nature leads;
O'er verdant plains, and flow'ry meads
My dear lov'd nymph and I will walk,
While in diverting, harmless talk
We in each other's soul a bliss enjoy
That ne'er will fade, and never, never cloy.
