Or This. To the Tune of the Old 104.
O Sing a new song, and sound an alarm
In Christ, who has done vast deeds of amaze;
With his mighty prowess, and God's holy arm
He has prov'd victorious o'er wonder and praise.
The Lord has made known his marvellous grace,
To save the whole world, submitting to view
His virtue and merits throughout the wide space
Of service and empire, to Gentile and Jew
His mercy and truth for us has he shewn,
Remembring his oath with Abraham his friend;
Of gospel salvation good tidings have flown
From Dan to Beersheba, and to the world's end
O make yourselves glad in God, all ye lands,
Ye nations and tongues your Saviour proclaim,
With sweet exultation, and palms in your hands,
Present your thanksgiving, and dwell on his name
His goodness extol with hand on the lyre,
And as the strings vie in songs of delight;
In joy to Jehovah, ye psalmists aspire,
As gratitude dictates, his praises recite.
With soul-soothing shawms, in tune to the wings
Of breezes serene O temper your mirth,
And with the shrill trumpet sound, hail King of kings,
Thy creatures adore thee their Saviour on earth.
Let sea make a noise, his legions and shoals,
Which glide on his wave, or love the still deep,
And let the round convex exult on his poles,
With all that beneath it God's benefits reap.
Resound ye proud floods with glorious applause,
And soar as the hills which range on the shore;
Let both bless together the Lord and his laws,
For he comes in judgment the world to restore
'Tis he comes to judge in mercy supream
The just for unjust, to live and to die,
When his sinful people his love shall redeem,
And to the lost myriads his merits apply.
