The Pigeons
Out in the garden,
Out in the sun,
Two pigeons were talking.
I listened. Said One:
“I do think it's fine
For the time of the year.
Don't yo-ou? Don't yo-o-ou?”
And Two, from the branch
Of another tree near,
Said, “I do-o. I do-o-o.”
Number One called:
“Do come and look,
I've found in this thorn-tree
The cosiest nook.
I do think a thorn
Is a snug sort of tree.
Don't you-ou? Don't yo-o-ou?”
And Two, as she flew
Through the garden to see,
Said, “I do-o. I do-o-o.”
Number One said:
“I've found a twig,
It isn't too little,
It isn't too big.
I think it is time
We were building a nest.
Don't you-ou? Don't yo-o-ou?”
And Two said: “My dear,
If you think it is best,
Yes, I do-o. I do-o-o.”
Out in the garden,
Out in the sun,
They're talking this morning.
Hush! Listen to One:
“I think that's the finest egg
Ever was laid.
Don't yo-ou? Don't yo-o-ou?”
And Two, sitting snug
In the nest they have made,
Says, “I do-o. They're two-o-o!”
