Purananuru - Part 213

Victorious king with your potent, powerful energies, you who
kill in ferocious battle, whose white umbrella lightens the world!
If you will weigh these two men who are advancing against you
in this world surrounded by raging waters, they are no
ancient enemies of yours with long-established strength!
Their eyes straining for the sight of battle, they've changed
their ways and risen up to confront you! As well, if you look
at yourself, you are not like them, lord of murderous elephants!
You have now gained a noble, wide-ranging reputation!
and after you go to the world where the great abide, your title,
relinquished then, will be theirs by right! Now once you
have realized that this is the way things are, listen
yet more closely to me, listen to more, you who long for glory!
These young men who have launched themselves against you
with their relentless intentions, with their thoughtless designs—
if they lose, to whom will you leave your imposing wealth?
And if you should lose to them, O ruler hungry for battle!
you will leave only shame and those who hate you will rejoice!
So restrain your Martial Courage! Rise up now and may the resolve
within you long flourish! You must act well so that the shade
afforded by your feet, a refuge for those who endure suffering,
not lose respect, so that they who abide in that world
hard to attain, where the gods live,
will receive you among them with desire as an honored guest!
