Purananuru - Part 385
As the Silver Planet appeared and the calls of the birds were heard
at the break of dawn, I did not appear at his gateway to praise
his many plowing oxen! But when he heard the music of my tatari drum
with its broad eye sounding at the doorways of other kings, he felt
kindness toward me and wishing my poverty to vanish, he stripped me
of the threadbare garment around my waist that the dust of the earth
was consuming and he clothed me in white and he banished my hunger!
May the overlord of Ampar where the fields grow their paddy and the water
of the Kaviri River laps into the low-lying land of the gardens,
may that good man Aruvantai live for more years than there might be
drops of rain falling from the heights
of the sky upon Palli's hill of Venkatam, the mountain of victory!
