Rebellion

I shall not lower myself to please
Languid women and idle men;
They should have musicales and teas,
Not syrupy rhymes from a poet's pen.

Lord, if You put me here to sing,
Fashion my verses like a blade;
There are birds enough to proclaim the spring,
Poets were born to be unafraid!
