To Richard John Stockton Esqr, Inclosing the Preceding Elegy
—Come my Alexis with thy mother share
This hour devoted to the tender tear
The tears of tenderness which on this morn
Pours a libation o'er thy father's urn
Accept the wreath my faithful hands entwine
And lend thy aid to deck this honourd shrine
Copy his virtues every pleasing art
Cull every flower and wear them on thy heart
Thy heart of sympathy the gentle seat
And sensibilitie's most lov'd retreat
Useful like his may thy whole life be passd
Thus mourn'd in death and in thy memory blest
This hour devoted to the tender tear
The tears of tenderness which on this morn
Pours a libation o'er thy father's urn
Accept the wreath my faithful hands entwine
And lend thy aid to deck this honourd shrine
Copy his virtues every pleasing art
Cull every flower and wear them on thy heart
Thy heart of sympathy the gentle seat
And sensibilitie's most lov'd retreat
Useful like his may thy whole life be passd
Thus mourn'd in death and in thy memory blest
