Saint Ambrose
Splendour of the Father's glow,
Light proclaiming out of light;
In the morning day doth show
Light renewed to bless the sight.
Beam, true sun, upon our coast,
Brightening with eternal light;
Lightening of the holy Ghost
Pour into our senses' night.
Hail with vows the Father's face,
Glorious with eternal rays;
Hail the Father's potent grace,
To repair our slippery ways;
To vouchsafe us active deeds;
Blunt the teeth against us set;
To assist our better needs;
Grace of suffering to beget;
Rule our hearts and reign therein;
(Body stern and sweet from sin)
Warm our faith with fervent heat;
Far from us remove deceit.
Faith our drink, be Christ our food,
Christ our health, our daily Host;
Joyful may we drink the good
Vintage of the holy Ghost.
Joyful is the day doth run.
Shame is morning's bursting husk.
Faith is like the noonday sun.
Mind, be wary of the dusk.
Let Aurora drive the sun,
Bland alike to man and herd.
In the Father all the Son;
All the Father in the Word.
Light proclaiming out of light;
In the morning day doth show
Light renewed to bless the sight.
Beam, true sun, upon our coast,

Lightening of the holy Ghost
