Saint Bernard
Hail, o Jesus, my salvation;
Jesus, hail, my adoration;
Hail, thou breast all passion slaking,
Only to be pressed with quaking,
Of Love's own house the door.
Hail, thou throne of holy godhead,
Ark of charity embodied;
Peace and pause for those who plodded;
Station for the feeble-bodied;
The bed of humble poor.
Hail, o Jesus, rich in pity;
Worthy goal of all entreaty;
Lord, reward my waiting, yearning;
Kindle me with holy burning,
For Love's sake, heartily.
Fashion me a breast all holy,
Burning, contrite, sighing, lowly;
Disposition self-denying,
Humble faith on thee relying,
And ever turned to thee.
Jesus, shepherd ever wary,
Son of God and Holy Mary,
Let the fount of thy heart's fulness
Wash me wholly of my foulness,
Father compassionate.
Image of the godhead, splendid
God of God, to earth descended,
From the richness of thy treasure,
Clement, fill with bounteous measure
The poor and desolate.
Breast of Jesus Christ of sweetness,
Lo, I trust thy gift's completeness;
From my sins by favour shriven,
Flames of love have wrapt and riven
My ever careful heart.
Thou art that abyss of knowledge;
Chorals of the angel college
Praise thee ever; John, by pressure
To thee, drank the flowing treasure
From out the sacred Heart.
Fount of mercy, I adore thee;
Low, in love, I bow before thee;
Godhead's likeness in thee dwelleth;
Counsel which thou givest healeth
In me my earthly taints.
Sanctuary of God, I greet thee;
Pity me, I do entreat thee;
Ark of goodness, vase of riches,
Let me, crowning all my wishes,
Be numbered with thy saints.
