The Saint Wears a Halo

The saint wears a halo;
The king wears a crown;
The milkmaid a bonnet
To match her white gown;
The toadstool a hat
And the foxgloves a hood;
A canopy covers
The trees in the wood.

The elf has a cap
That fits close to his head;
The witch stole a steeple
(The storybook said).
But when I go running,
I leave my head bare
To feel the warm sun
And the wind in my hair!
