Seek Out Another Heart

You lie down in terror of the darkness,
even your bones are trembling, your heart
longs to still itself in one final sleep.

Dawn finds you always anguished as it breaks,
seeks out others who might better make out
the meaning of what it says.

You have plunged unarmed into strife,
at noon you moan and stagger, wounded;
no one comes to see to you.

Beneath a cloud of dust you wander
alone in the desert. You are the traveler
who seeks his home but has lost his way.

Your heart is ripping apart,
you can neither get away nor turn back.
Until another heart wants to light your way
you shall stumble through the dark.
