The Shore-Light

Shines the shore-light o'er the bar,
When dim the moon and dark the star,
And sail of ship from oceans far
Draw near the fatal shoals;
So shining o'er life's stormy sea,
The love of God for you and me,
For ever bright, forever free
To lost and guilty souls
Shines the candle thro' the pane
When wanderers come home again,
And hail the light in storm and rain
Across the dreary moor;
So, on our journey dark and drear,
The light of home shall yet appear,
And vanish ev'ry doubt and fear
In heaven's open door
Shines the light and shining free!
O sinner lost, look up and see
The lamp that God has lit for thee
To shine amid the gloom;
To guide the wand'ring footsteps right,
And lead thee thro' the stormy night,
To heaven's never fading light
Beyond, beyond the tomb.
