See the sun is setting
In the crimson west,
Like a flame bird setting
O'er her downy nest.

Fleecy clouds are specking
Heaven's dome on high,
Like the sea foam flecking
When a storm is nigh.

Silver stars are twinkling
From their home of blue,
Like the steady beating
Of a heart that's true.

Ruddy firelight flickering
Toning shadows deep,
Like the life blood pulsing
When the world's asleep.

Weary day forgetting
As the shadows creep,
Like a sea receding
When the tide's at neap.
