Song 3

Poor Thomas Cairel ,
Foolishest of men,
Bought him new apparel;
And what followed then?

Bought him new apparel,
Lectured unto men,
Gaped and gasped, poor Cairel,
Foolishest of men.

He wrote a Revolution,
Book without its like;
Then he took a resolution
That he was a wretched tike.

Sartor called Resartus
This they published thence;
" May no chance e'er part us! "
Nonsense said to Sense

But then came no money,
Not a coin of money in,
Then was gall instead of honey,
'Stead of peace was din.

Hapless Thomas Cairel
Foolishest of men
Bought him new apparel
And what followed then?
