Song 5: The Fountain of Purification Opened

Good news to men, still new and fresh,
While lasts the gospel-day,
A fountain shall be ope to wash
Their sin and filth away:

Wide ope to David's house and all
That dwell on Salem-ground;
To kings and subjects great and small,
That hear the joyful sound.

The sacred font to wash our stains,
Is pure and precious blood,
That issued from the dying veins
Of our incarnate God.

Lord wash me there; this blood alone
The fountain open'd so,
Hath power sufficient to atone,
And make me white as snow.
