Sonnet
Ive long been wishing for thee lonely spot
To think away vain follys & be free
Long sighed for thee in crowds that knew thee not
Dead to the pleasures that repose in thee
Knew they the sweets lifes solitudes hath got
How gladly then theyd shun its noise with me
To seek those joys that nestle in thy boughs
Quiet & all that breaths of liberty
The mellow lowings of glad feeding cows
& gentle bleatings of unfolded sheep
Who startle bye in lonely nooks to brouze
As my lone rambles on their peace will creep
Ah did they know such joys how glad with me
Theyd shun the world & think its cares to sleep.
