Strong rods for Scepters to bear Sway
How will Connecticutt display,
If thus they go unto their grave,
And we their Monuments but have,
Inscrib'd whereon their Vertues are
Twere better Such did in them Share,
Who cant alass therewith compare,
Devout and Conscientious Haynes
Under this Toomb Sleeps his Remains!
It would Assur'dly better Sound,
His goodness could in all be found,
And that did circulate around.
If such were heavens influence
Then with his loss we could dispence,
And deem Ourselves not So bereft,
For one, were thousand Haynes's left.
But among thousand oh how few
Survive, that do his Steps pursue,
And those hereatt who cry not Oh
Are Unconcerned it is So.
Let me my wishes on them Spend
That they poor Souls may live and mend.
Amen. Jno James
