A face reigned on the water
but did not sleep
It was the face of pain.

two hands that grew green with prayer
were
the hands of the poor.

A face floated on the water
but did not sleep
It was the face of God.
The guardian of the morning wanders
between the Khalili Bazaar
and the Mosque of Husain
He stretches two hands:
one bargaining with the Khalili Bazaar
playing with the Khalili Bazaar
stringing bracelets on the wrists
of the Khalili Bazaar
and the other
picking autumn flies
off the children's faces
in the Grand Mosque of Husain
