Venus

Beautiful Venus! Star of the morning!
Fairest of planets that dwell in the sky!
Burning so calmly, the heavens adorning,
Tenderly lookest thou down from on high!

When the sun reddens the east with his fire,
Ere he darts over the earth his first beams,
Brightly thou shinest, high o'er the tall spire,
Like some sweet spirit escaped from my dreams.

Queen of the heavens! All undimmed is thy glory,
But faded and gone are the stars of the night;
Fled, like the fairies of mythical story,
With the first smile of the morn's early light.
